From generation to generation, the inhabitants of Valle del Almanzora (Almanzora Valley) have inherited the wine culture for centuries. We were witness to the wines that our grandfathers used to elaborate, who in turn learned from their predecessors. We accompanied our parents in the enjoyment of treading the grapes in the presses and we are sure of the legacy that we will leave our children, who are becoming more involved daily in this marvellous and endearing world.
In the middle of the 20th century, all the higher Almanzora was a sea of vineyards for table wines, called “uva de barco” (boat grapes) because they were exported, the most appreciated being the Cela, Lucar, Purchena, Tíjoa, Oria, Serón, etc, there not being a single wine or vine producer who did no make use of any steep bank or slope to plant roots from which to obtain what is still called today “vino del pais” (wine of the country).

ELABORATION AND STORAGE CELLAR
On entering the 21st century, the district, which had adapted to the times cultivating almonds and olives, began to replace the old roots, some of unknown origin, with noble varieties such al Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Syrah, etc.
While this change in the way of a metamorphosis takes place in our lands, in Lúcar, one of the twenty-six villages that make up the higher Almanzora, a majestic, modern building is being built.
This building was finished for the harvest of 2004: Bodegas Alto Almanzora had been created. With capacity to create ONE MILLION litres of wine, the Cellar swallowed 400.000 Kg of grapes and began to use all the latest applicable technologies to elaborate wines in each and every one of the required phases to obtain good wines. Between the extraordinary grapes of 2004 and the technological application of all the latest oenological cannons, the result has been an elegant and excellent wine, suitable for the most demanding taste buds.
