The municipality of Lucar is situated to the North-east of the Province of Almeria. It limits to the North with the municipalities of Cullar and Oria, to the East with Somontin and Oria and to the South with Armuña and Tijola and to the West with Tijola.

It covers an area of 95 Km. sq. and the population according to the municipal census is of some 800 inhabitants.

The town of Lucar is situated in the foothills of the Lucar Mountain, at 895 meters above sea level on latitude 37º 24’ and longitude 2º 25’ (in regard to the Madrid Meridian). It is 127 km. away from the Capital of the Province.
